Southland Industries Demonstrates Commitment to Energy and Water Efficiency through EPA/DOE “Labs For The 21st Century” Program
Southland Industries joined the ranks of corporate, academic, and government pioneers leading the way to sustainable laboratory design. By becoming a Laboratories for the 21st Century (Labs21®) Supporter, Southland Industries has demonstrated its commitment to improving energy and water efficiency, encouraging the use of renewable energy sources, and promoting environmental stewardship in our nation’s laboratories.
Labs21 is a voluntary partnership program sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Energy (DOE) and is dedicated to improving the environmental performance of U.S. laboratories. Southland’s design-build work will specifically strive to implement energy efficient laboratory designs. As a design – build contractor, Southland is uniquely positioned to assure installation compliance with energy efficient design as well as on-going operational efficiencies.
Because of stringent ventilation requirements and other health and safety concerns, the average laboratory uses at least five times as much energy as a typical office building. “At Southland Industries, we understand the bottom line benefits of designing with energy efficiency in mind. We endeavor to educate our customers on the advantages of smart, energy efficient designs. This requires diligence to break older wasteful habits and mind sets.” said Pat Goetz. “By supporting Labs21, we’re looking forward to becoming a part of great things, in part by tapping into a whole network of organizations with similar environmental goals.”
